Our Mandate (continued from page I) This is how the Historical Society worked for the following 20 years. By 1993 a professional operating staff was in place in the Museum and Archives. This allowed the Society to revert to a supporting role by forming a volunteer pool for the facility and to start fundraising activities. At the Annual General Meeting on March 25,1993, its name was changed back to the West Vancouver Historical Society Unfortunately the activities of the Society began to change in the new century The acquisition of physical artifacts basically stopped, through a lack of storage. The display of physical artifacts slowed down for a variety of reasons. The collection of photographic and print material continued and grew. The Museum's mandate changed from that of being an Artifact Museum to one of being an Architectural and Art Museum that reflected these roots in the community The role of the Historical Society in the cultural life of West Vancouver has changed. The creation and publication of the centennial celebration book The Lawson home owned by Gertrude Lawson in 1938 - south view left to right - Betty Kirk, Mrs. Christine Lawson, John Lawson, unidentified woman and man, Margaret Harte, Gertrude Lawson - West Vancouver Archives - 010.WVA.LAW - anyone who can Identify the man and woman, please contact th Archives '"Cottages to Community", helped preserve some of West Van's oral, personal, and photographic history. The Society's up-coming book "Arrivals and Departures" on the various ferry systems in Horseshoe Bay over the last century is a continuation of the process. Some of the profits from "Cottages" have been given to the West Van Archives, West Van Library and other community groups to assist in the preservation of West Vancouver's history and culture. The mandate of the Historical Society as it is currently written has to be reviewed so that it will reflect our current role in the community A committee of the Board will be formed this fall to attend to this. The Board's recommendations will be brought to the Annual General Meeting on March 18, 2015. Input from members is welcome at wvhs.ca or 778-279-2235.
