West Vancouver Houses on Duchess Avenue between 11th and 13th on February 8,1945 - 0731 .WVA.PHO Your Memories Are West Van's History! The memories of your days in West Van are an important part of the history of West Van. The West Vancouver Historical Society, formed on July 17, 1980 by the Rotary Club, sought to record and preserve the memories of the early days as lived by the pioneers. Sadly many of those individuals are now gone. Their memories, however, live on in the Archives of West Vancouver giving the community an insight into West Van's growth from a few houses and tents in 1912 to today's modern cosmopolitan community The Historical Society would like to carry on this preservation of memories - those belonging to later generations. What to you seems only a personal reminiscence is an important part of the story of the community. My memory of my father , uncle and others having the municipality close off 15th Street and other hilly West Van streets for sledding in 1947 is something to be preserved. The Historical Society would like you to send us your personal reminiscences and photos of West Van - they could be from any year as long as they reflect something about your time in West Vancouver Some may be reprinted in our newsletter "Memories" and all will be turned over to the Archives for possible preservation. You are the historians of West Vancouver as it grew to what it is today. Please send your stories with maybe a little bit about who you are to wvhs@shaw.ca or 680 - 17th Street, V7V 3T2 . On pages 6 and 7 you will find Dr. Dick Andersen's reminiscence of being a child in West Vancouver during the 1930's. V i
