T h e rates for h e a v i e r m a i l are yet to be determined. O u r eight page newsletter such as this issue c u r r e n t l y cost the S o c i e t y 65 cents to m a i l . L a r g e r issues such as o u r frequent 12 page one w i l l u n d o u b t e d l y cost m u c h m o r e . W e p r i n t 3 5 0 copies to send o u t to m e m b e r s a n d o u r supporters. C o u p l e this w i t h rising p r i n t i n g costs a n d we have a fairly hefty b i l l to p a y four times a year. · y o u c a n send a c o p y to The Board o f the Historical Society is c u r r e n t l y w r e s d i n g w i t h this financial problem. S o m e disadvantages are: » D o w e raise o u r a n n u a l dues? · y o u c a n n o t peruse it at y o u r · D o w e reduce the n u m b e r o f leisure - y o u have to b e at a computer. · r e a d i n g it has to be a · D o w e reduce the size o f the newsletter to 4 pages (half the c u r r e n t size)? · O r d o we j o i n the 21 st C e n t u r y a n d go digital? T h e first three are easy to d o . It is the f o u r t h i d e a that is m o r e c o m p l i c a t e d . T o h e l p us study this, the Board is applying for a Community Arts and Cultural Grant to h e l p us investigate h o w we c a n p r o v i d e the d i g i t a l service, its costs a n d its i m p l i c a t i o n s . W e propose that w e set a t i m e l i m i t o f o n e year to study a n d try to i m p l e m e n t s u c h a plan.
