P R E S I D E N T ' S R E P O R T BY ANN BROUSSON As spring is arriving and our recreational pursuits turn to the out of doors, it is interesting to take a look back at the progression of the West Vancouver Historical Society's projects. Now that the sales of "Cottages to Community" have slowed down considerably, we are proud to say that 95.6% of our books have sold. The remaining copies of the book are housed at the Gertrude Lawson Museum. Our efforts to determine what the future entails for the Museum building are ongoing. Board members have attended many of the public meetings recently in order to chat vsdth those who might be making a decision on the future of the Gertrude Lawson House. Our Board have also undertaken, individually to meet with West Vancouver council members at the Commtmity History Centre at 3203 Institute Road in Lyim Valley, in order to familiarize them with what has taken place in North Vancouver. If you are interested in seeing the History Centre you do not need an appointment. The Centre is open Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 5:00 pm. We are proceeding with our plans for a "virtual museum" which will be accessed through our website wvhs.ca. Rob Morris, John Moir, and Don Grant have been exchanging ideas and are excited at the possibilities this whole enterprise opens up. For those of you who missed our last general meeting, the interview of Bill Millerd by David Barker is up on our website. Bill was and engaging speaker and there has been a lot of positive feedback from that evening. Many of the people who grew up in West Vancouver in the earlier years have memories of the great Northern cannery as a place of summer employment. Bill painted an intriguing picture of life in the "Walled City" as a young member of the Millerd family. His long career as the Managing Director of the Arts Club was also a fascinating journey through the early days of Vancouver theatre. David Barker did an excellent job of interviewing Bill. At our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, May 15th, in the Marine Room of the Seniors Centre, our guest speaker will be a representative of the West Vancouver Fire Service Museum and Archive Society speaking on the history of West Van's Fire Department. This meeting will commence at 7 pm. This vnll be my last President's Report, as my tenure expires in June. This has been an invigorating two years for me, vdth a steep learning curve. So many new and wonderful people have entered my life as a restilt of this position. I feel very fortunate. The Society is growing and has a good profile in the community I would urge you all to try and attend our barbeque in August at the Gertrude Lawson House. Yvonne Bower does an excellent job of ensuring we all have a great time. This year we will also informally celebrate the birthday of Norma Minions Hamilton's 90th year. So come out on Saturday, Aiigust 24th from noon to 2:30 pm and enjoy barbequed hamburgers, cake and ice cream, all for a small donation. We look forward to seeing you there. 680 -1 7th street West Vancouver, BO Phone: 778-279-2235 email: wvhs@shaw.ca website: wvhs.ca Board Members President - Ann Brousson Vice-President - vacant Past President - Jim Carter Treasurer - Marilyn Rhodes Secretary - Pann Dalik Membership - Wendy Topham Newsletter - Dave Barker Directors - Yvonne Bower (sociaO Rod Day ( Municipal liaison) Elaine Graham (Pt.
