Memories My family bought a small house on Bellevue in 1940. My mother called it a California Bungalow (we didn't have the price for it - $1,000 - and so borrowed it from my Auntie). My sister and I shared one bedroom and my parents had the other one. (both of them were unheated). Our house was heated by the large stove in the kitchen and the fireplace in the living room (both fueled by wood and coal). My parents lived there until 1968. The whole block from 21st to 22nd was then turned into apartment blocks ( all the houses on both sides of Bellevue were demolished). My fondest memory was in the winter of 1945, when 1 sleighed for hours down the hill from 20th to 19th on Bellevue Avenue. It was closed to traffic to allow a sleigh hill for the children. Growing up in West Van was wonderful. I attended Pauline Johnson Elementary School and graduated from West Van High School (the only secondary school at that time). I still live in West Van and think i's the only place to live. Val McPolin (nee Jones) from Valerie McPolin (nee Jones) 2177 Bellevue Ave. West Van -1941. my sister and I are on the verandah. We read about the happenings of other people and we can say "I remember that" or "I saw or did that". Send your reminiscences to the Society with a photo if possible (we will return it if requested).
