BOOK REPORT Projects Funded by Book Proceeds at the Archives and the Library by Jim carter The Board of the Society has been able to award grants for three projects aimed at preserving the history of our community. Archives across Canada have found it difficult to preserve valuable materials on the history of their communities because of limited funding. The successful sales of "Cottages to Community" have allowed for the allocation of funds to support the preservation of existing material. Once the materials have been preserved they will be made available to the public through the internet web site, the initial projects are: May day Project - gathering, Site. $5,084.24 approved by the Board. The same problem with funds for the preservation of materials is faced by the West Vancouver Memorial Library. They have a collection of materials on the history of West Vancouver stored in assorted files, folders and boxes. Money has not bee available to preserve up to 350 images. Their project is: Ferry Building Gallery will continue to sell the book into the future. With only 150 remaining we believe that all the books will be gone before the New Year in 2014. It has been a wonderful collective effort. The Library, Museum and 10 retail stores have been at the core of successful sales. Our membership has also made a strong impact on sales withe their pre-sales support. The community also gave strong support through their donations in support of the book. When we set out on the publication of our history we were uncertain as to the financial success of the venture The donations gave us the support needed to continue with our efforts Thanks to those that gave to the book fund and to those who have purchased the book. On January 7 formal sales came to an end. Final accounting on income and expenditures has not yet been completed. Nevertheless, we can say that the profit made from the sales will continue to fund projects for the preservation of our history for the next 3 to 4 years.
