President's Message The Society continues to be involved in community events in this, our centennial yean We have been pleased to be a major sponsor of so many of these celebrations and have enjoyed meeting the people who populate the various neighbourhoods ofWest Vancouver Community spirit is alive and well In West Van, fostered by the volunteer hours of many of its citizens. Collaborating with these civic minded people has been immensely satisfying. The Caulfeild Historical Wander in September and Pumpkin Fest in October are great examples of what can be accomplished when people get together to promote such events. The professional manner with which these The Communnity Events planners have been also most helpful in making sure things run smoothly throughout this special yean The Caulfeild Wander was an inspiring example of a neighbourhood celebrating its roots Stringer, Cathy Duthie Legate, Jim Carter and myself put in long hours on the historical aspect of the day and felt people were really responsive to our presentations. Our thanks go to Don Millerd for his help with the information about the Great Northern Cannery Pumpkin Fest was, as usual, a treat for all ages. So much background preparation on the part of people in the community made the week-end festive and fun for everyone. At our own successful summer BBQ those in attendance will remember that Len Corban of the Oudook newspaper was proudly presenting his new book, the life story of Ernie Kershaw, a popular teacher at West Vancouver High School and renowned athlete. The book is entitled "The Pitching Professor: the Life and Times of Ernie Kershaw". On November 14th, Len will be our guest speaker at the General Meeting at the Seniors Centre, in the Marine Room at 7 pm. For those of you who grew up in West Vancouver, or who are sports fans, this will be an informative and interesting walk down memory lane. Many of you enjoyed the talk given by Timothy Horton on the subject of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway at our last general meeting, we look forward to seeing you again at this one.
