T h e Ferry Building - To Be Moved? The Ferry Building at the foot of 14th Street was one of the first structures built in West Vancouver, dating back to the incorporation of West Vancouver in 1912. It was designed to be the ticket kiosk and headquarters of the new West Vancouver transportation system - the iconic West Van ferries. After the ferries were discontinued in the late 1940's, it eventually found a new life as an art gallery and a hub ofWestVancouver's cultural life on the shore. It became the gathering place for the citizens as they This now is being threatened by the proposed arts precinct. It is suggested that the Ferry Building be replaced by new exhibition space and an education centre on Argyle Avenue. According to the North Shore News this arts building would be built on the Ferry Building site. It is contemplated that the Building itself could be moved elsewhere or even onto the neighbouring wharf. The Ferry Building is one of three municipal historic sites, the other two being the B . C .
