Still dealing with the First Narrows bridge, I have no personal knowledge of the matters of which I now speak, but my recollection is that the person who was responsible^ for the removal of the tollsfrom the bridge was Premier WA. C. Bennett. He had declared that his government was going to abolish tolls on all bridges in British Columbia and made an offer to the Bridge Company to purchase its assets. This offer was refused. Mr Bennett then countered by if they did not wish to sell, his Government intended to build a tollfree First Narrows bridge along side the existing bridge.
