Covering more than the present reference handbooks on Islam, the editorial board of this title includes many scholars from Islamic countries and a list of contributors with their credentials in the last volume. Each entry concludes with an independent bibliography and notes the author. The time rolls around once again... Christmas is approaching. For those considering gifts for family and friends and looking for a quality item, we would like to jog your memories of the consumer collection located in the Reference Dept. Here you will often discover rated products, informing prospective givers of gifts of the enduring article over the flimsy gadget. Along the same vein of a Christmas theme, the Reference Dept, has some clipping files under the heading of Christmas ... in which many Christmas curiosa can be unveiled. Such articles within the folder that are inevitably asked for are “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,†Clement Moore’s “The Night Before Christmas,†“How the most famous reindeer of all got his name,†the origin of the “Christmas Tree,†“Avoiding the consumer Christmas,†Christmas across the cultures,†and many other forgotten topics of the season. ADULT SERVICES IN THE GALLERY ... Still life and landscapes combine to form the theme of this month’s two-artist show. “Flowers & Faces†by Alma MacPhail. Alma began painting 10 years ago and continues to be inspired by gardening and her love of flowers. She uses a variety of mediums in her paintings including oil on canvas, and pastel and acrylic on paper. “Inside & Out†by Pamela Scott. Pamela Scott is a well- known West Vancouver painter and teacher whose medium of choice is gouache paint. Many of her paintings were inspired by her travels to Europe. Pamela has worked as an illustrator of books and periodicals and her paintings have been displayed in solo exhibits across the Lower Mainland. Opening reception hosted by the Gallery and the exhibiting artists is on Friday, December 6, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
