May 2001 LIBRARY NEWS The Library Foundation The West Vancouver Memorial Library is very fortunate for many reasons. One of them is the Memorial Library Foundation. This dedicated and hardworking group raises money for the Library. Last year they raised funds for the self-checkout machine, our new website and extra copies of best sellers. They do this through the Annual Campaign and events such as the Croquet Tournament and Author’s Night. The Foundation is currently planning their 5â€' Annual Ambleside Greens Croquet Tournament to be held on June 1. This wonderful event is rapidly becoming a classic in West Vancouver. This year’s tournament will, as usual, include the mouth-watering meals donated by the Four Seasons Hotel. Other sponsors include Polygon Homes Ltd., London Drugs/IGA, Contact Printing, Mission Hill Winery and the North Shore News. For more information about the event please contact Sally Zaplatynsky at 925-1548. May is launch time for the Annual Campaign. In 2001, the Foundation is again raising funds for best sellers. In addition, they will be raising funds for a partnership project with the Municipality to upgrade shelving in portions of the Library to meet current seismic codes. This support, coupled with that of Council, will allow us to make this more than just a bare nuts and bolts project. The results will be safe, functional and attractive. Of course, the real heroes are not just the members of the Foundation Board. Our heroes include all of you who give so generously to the campaign and come out to their events. Thank you.
