M A Y 9 7 LIBRARY NEWS Trying To Make Ends Meet Municipal Council, faced with a reduction in its Provincial grant, has informed the Library Board and other Municipal departments that our funding is being reduced significantly for 1997 and future years. As a consequence, the Board has reluctantly initiated the following changes, effective June 1,1997: Adult book fines rise from 250 to 300 per day, with the maximum fine per hardcover book, compact disc, audio cassette or video going from $10 to $12; The charge for a replacement library card goes from $2 to $3; Rental rates for the Peters and Musto Rooms, as well as the Story House (the latter available for rental on weekday evenings only) are going up as indicated in separate notices available at the registration desk or by calling 925-7429; Library service on Sundays will end May 25 rather than June 29, resuming after Thanksgiving. Patrons should be aware that these are only the first steps: once Council announces the final budget numbers, the Board anticipates that more severe service reductions and possibly additional fee increases will be necessary. We will keep you informed. It fills a significant gap in our collection. This directory goes beyond the conventional manufacturer’s directory such as Thomas Register, Fraser’s, or Scott’s in that it provides addresses to service-based industries such as accountants, lawyers, auctioneers, broker dealers, estate agencies, information services, property development services, and the like. In addition, Kelly’s combines the above contacts with many of Britain’s retail services, unlike the North American directories.
