February ’97 LIBRARY NEWS Dear Library Patron: The West Vancouver Municipal Council is at present developing a new 1997 budget to reflect the recent Provincial cutbacks. The challenge it faces is to try to maintain high quality services while seeking cost savings and alternative sources of revenue. The Memorial Library receives nearly 88% of its funding from the Municipal tax base. While realizing we must shoulder our share of the financial burden, we are anxious to minimize the impact on Library services. Your suggestions regarding aspects of the service you particularly value would be helpful. You can convey your thoughts via a Comments form from any of the information desks or by calling 925-7424. And if you value the current standard of service provided by the Memorial Library, please consider informing Council by writing to Mayor Boname. Thank you. The Commission was convened in August 1991 and was made public on November 21,1996, Co-chaired by George Erasmus and Rene Dussault, i\\e,Report is a significant body of research and interviews that makes recommendations on a wide range of issues concerning the Aboriginal peoples of Canada. The recommendations hold long-term implica- tions for federal, provincial and municipal policy makers and informed public debate. Semiannual or biannual or biennial - which term do I use? Perhaps we can sort it out right here and now. Semiannual and biannualhave the same meaning, that is “twice a year,†while biennial means once every two years.†Beware of triennial and tricennial - triennial = “once every three years,†and tricennial = “once every thirty years.†Semiweekly â- and biweekly are likely one of the of the more confusing time designations. Semi- weekly means “twice a week,†while biweekly means “once every two weeks.†On this note, bimonthly means “once every two months,†while semimonthly means “twice a month,†as does biweekly. Everything should be clear now!!
