It has been confirmed that the next highest mountain in the world to Everest is K2. However, it is rarely asked where this name came from. According to Asiaweek, it is so named because it was the second peak to be measured in the "Karakoram†range. K2 is located in the Pakistan-controlled part of Kashmir on the disputed border with China. Mountaineers consider this 8,611 meter (28,250 ft.) mountain to be more difficult to climb than Mount Everest. Its summit was first reached by an Italian expedition on July 31, 1954. It seems that in today's world terms and phrases are being coined every few seconds. They are meant to entice the waiting consumer to "buy, buy, buy.†Such areas are now being descriptively referred to as waitbusters, or less commonly as shelftalkers.
