SmiEI <95 LIBRARY NEWS Anyone for Coffee? Within a short time the Memorial Library will be offering what some bookstores and a few libraries have recently begun to provide: a specialty coffee outlet right on the premises. The Library Board is pleased to have signed an agreement with Miirchie's to sell their distinctive range of quality coffees and teas as well as juices from a location just inside the west wing, close to the main hall's music alcove. Products will be sold in cups with lids in order to minimize the risk of spills. While providing a source of extra revenue -- which means the ability to buy more books â€" the specialty coffee service is seen by the Board as adding to the home-like atmosphere created by the fireplace, drapes and table lamps donated for the reading room last year. Many of you indicated in a survey a few months ago that you would welcome such a service, and with the days growing shorter and cooler, it does sound appealing, doesn't it? Hope to see you soon at West Van's newest, trendy coffee bar! Often the idea of discovering the history' behind a word seems interesting at first. Then the curiosity wanes as the descriptive text inevitably becomes dry. This is not the case with this recent book. An interesting example of the engaging content is with the history of the word SNEEZE: ... until the 15th century English speakers did not sneeze, rather they fneezed, and even today one may hear neeze in some Scottish dialects. Yet for some unknown reason the "f and "s" became interchangeable toward the end of the 15th century, with the "S" finally taking over thereafter. A much-needed manual to help the entrepreneur with the multitude of laws, rules, regulations and restrictions attached to the free-trade agreements is called Exporting to the USA.
