AuCIIST ’95 LIBRARY NEWS Parking near the Library Ifyou circled the block a few times just now while trying to find a parking space reasonably close to the Library, this may not be the best time to tell you about the short term future of our rooftop parking deck. The concrete surface of the deck has been deteriorating rapidly in recent months. It has to be substantially rehabilitated and the best time to do this will be during the dry weather we usually enjoy in A ugust. IVe're assuming the work will take a couple of weeks at most, during which time the 19 parking spaces on the deck will naturally be unavailable. As August, contrary to conventional wisdom, is one of our busier months, this will make the search for that elusive space even more zestful than usual. If Musical Chairs was never your game, try 20th Street north of Marine. No guarantees, but sometimes it offers hope when prospects are bleak elsewhere. Indian Summer is of American origin and refers to unseasonably warm weather in late October. However, the lesser known, more ancient St. Martin's Summer extends its warmth into November. St. Martin was a greatly beloved Bishop of Tours of the 4th centuiy'. He died in November, 401 A.D., and his body was said to have floated up the Loire to Tours. Along the way all the trees that lined the banks burst into fragrant blossom. St. Martin's day is November 11. Source: D.R. Blumberg, Whose U'hat? (N.Y.: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1969): .150.
