November ’04 LIBRARY NEWS A FINE LINE (^be Library Board has reluctantly decided to follow the lead of other local libraries by raising the overdue fine for books borrowed on an adult card from 20 cents to 25 cents per day. At the same time the Board will be raising the rate charged for rental of library meeting rooms by commercial or â€for-profif users. The new rates will be $30 to rent the Musto Room for 4 hours or portion thereof; for the Peters Room the commercial rate will be $75 for up to 4 hours and $10 for each additional hour or portion. All these changes will take effect January 1, 1995. Like other public libraries the Memorial Library is feeling the pressure of steadily rising costs in a period of fiscal restraint. With limited options for increasing revenues our Boards like others, is turning to the areas mentioned in an effort to preserve the book budget. Please understand this is not to say we want everyone to spend more on Library fines. BE WARNED! GET THOSE BOOKS BACK ON TIME! Most publications of this kind cover regionally endangered species or list the top 10 to 50 rare and threatened animals or plants. This Encyclopedia inventories over 700 animals and plants at risk throughout the world in entries up to 3 pages in length. Each briefly describes vital statistics, biology, habitat, history, current distribution and conservation measures. There are maps, geographic and species indexes, all of which make this a convenient volume to consult. We often refer to people whose styles are behind the times as "squares.'^ In the 1950s, a fashionable British slang term described a person who was "more square than square" as "a cube," according to Brewer's Twentieth Century Phrase and Fable. Now the term "cube" has become ravaged with age. ADULT IN THE GALLERY ...
