We'll be offering the usual mix of exciting new books in coming months - biographies, history, parapsychology, cookery, investment and home improvement - and a broad range of fiction by established and emerging talents. As well, we'll add classic films and lots of self-help programs on video, popular and classical music on compact disc, plenty of large print and taped books for those with visual impairments. That amazing CD-ROM computer technology will be more in evidence. The Memorial Library will provide discussion groups, lectures, another Music in the Morning series and monthly art exhibits featuring North Shore artists. More newspapers and magazines in our fine new reading room, lots of entertaining programs in the Youth Services story house. It's going to be fun and exciting. Come along with us! One category is astronautical and aerospace particulars. Newly acquired by the Reference Department is Who’s Who In Space by Michael Cassutt. This biographical reference profiles people from every nationality who travelled in space from 1961 to 1992, as vfell as those who prepared for space flight. Besides biographical information, there is information about the space programs with historical, statistical and technical accounts of them. British Business Terms Gazump and gazundering are British real estate terms of unknown origin. Gazump* reflects a seller’s market in which a verbal contract to buy property at a given price is broken by the vendor for a higher price. Consequently the buyer has been gazumped, quite legally until there is a survey and signed contract. On the other hand, during a buyer’s market the buyer may reduce the offer with the understanding that the vendor is anxious to sell. This practice is known as gazundering. * Gazump can also be spelled gasumph, gazoomph, gazumph, gezumph and is now appearing in the language of other commercial transactions, e.g. automobile trade, etc. adult services IN THE GALLERY... "Nature’s Fantasy through the Mists," mixed media and 24K gold paintings by North Shore artist Lynne Green will be on display in the Library until January 30. Lynne became interested in art as a child. She travelled extensively after attending university and was greatly affected by the art and culture of Europe. She is an accomplished gold and silversmith and has designed crafted jewellery for many years. Her work has been collected worldwide. Reception, artist in attendance, January 3, 7:30 - 8:30 pjn. All paintings are for sale. MUSIC AT THE LIBRARY ... This popular series will be offered again in the Spring. The Memorial Library Foundation of West Vancouver, co-sponsoring with Music in the Morning Concert Society, is presenting its second Wednesday morning series of "musical conversations." March 9 - June Goldsmith, lecturer April 6 - Rita Costanzi, harpist May 11 - Robert Rogers, pianist One-hour musical conversations.... talks and live music... will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Peter J. Peters Meeting Room and will be preceded by refreshments at 10:00 a.m. Tickets will be available at the Library. The cost for the series is $39 and $33 for seniors. $14 smgle tickets at the door, if seating is available.
