REFERENCE DEPARTMENT The Reference Department is presently in receipt of the Agreeaents between the northern First Nations and the Canadian government. These include documentation on political and land rights for the various peoples in the northern territories and the Yukon. The Library of Parliament Research Branch publishes brief research documents on various topics affecting political, economic and social legislation in Canada. These studies appear in two series; Background Paper and Current Issue Review. The Reference Department has indexed the ' individual research studies in the NEffSPAPER INDEX, accessible to library users at the so-named terminal in the department. Most often, library patrons turn to the Self-Counsel Press booklets for answers to non-professional legal questions. While this proves worthwhile for many people, there are other oft-forgotten sources that can be consulted. The U.B.C. Law Student's I^gal Advice Manual covers a broad range of topics, including criminal law, unemployment insurance, civil liberties, women and the law, power of attorney, immigration law, motor vehicle law, small claims, creditor's remedies/debtor*s assistance, consumer law, and landlord/tenant law, to name some. Another service. The Legal Support Staff Desk Reference, is a little more technical. This publication also provides samples of legal forms. ADOLT SERVICES IN THE GALLERY ...
