REFERENCE DEPARTMENT Now that the westcoast rains have momentarily subsided, vegetation is thriving .... but so are the harmful insects and the plant diseases. The Organic Gardner's Handbook of Natural Insect and Disease Control identifies problem insects and diseases with illustrations and descriptions. The text provides easy-to-use remedies for the gardener without resorting to toxic chemicals. All topics can be readily found by consulting the index. There is a list of common and botanical names of plants, a sources directory and general reference reading list. The novice, as well as the not-so-novice entomologist may wish to probe more deeply into the world of insects by referring to the 1993 printing of the Encyclopedia of Insects. It is one of those books that falls somewhere between the amateur/ specialist designation. While providing the reader with skilfully detailed illustrations and easy-to-read essays, the Encyclopedia combines popular and technical terms, summarizing the most current scientific understanding of insects. Each entry is identified by an expert contributor in the field and bibliographical sources are provided at the end of the book. "Cancer" â€" a word that makes most people shudder with fear. For the most part, it may be due to the lack of comprehensible information on the disease. Hie Cancer Dictionary attempts to address its mysteries by clearing up some of the confusion surrounding this dreaded ailment and giving patients a greater sense of control in their treatment. The dictionary contains virtually every cancer-associated word to date with definitions that cut through the murky, unfathomable medical jargon. ADOLT SERVICES IN THE GALLERY ....
