Last year the Friends handed a cheque for $21,000 to the chairman of the fundraising campaign for the building expansion. Later on they set themselves the goal of raising $20,000 towards the cost of a new bookmobile, and they are about to make good on that pledge. We like to brag that West Van citizens borrow more books per capita than any other group in Canada and that we have the nicest library. Certainly the latest community survey suggests that most of you are very satisfied with the service. Well, the Friends of the Library are a big part of what sets this library apart. Their information brochures are on display around the Duilding. Why not pick one up and become part of this vibrant successful group? REFERENCE DEPARTMENT The Occupational Infomation monograph series, published by the University of Toronto Guidance Centre, is available in the Reference Department. They are arranged in a binder alphabetically by occupation titles. Each monograph describes the nature and conditions of the work, qualifications and preparation needed for the occupation, as well as a salary range. Where possible a list of related books and associations is provided. The monographs are updated on a regular basis. The Writers Directory, 1992-94 has just been received by the Reference Department. This directory lists more than 17,000 living writers, novelists, dramatists and poets from Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Great Britain and the United States. Listed are writers' publications, subject categories, addresses, current and past appointments.
