The Friends of the Memorial Library are part of the fabric of this place. They helped to launch it in 1950, they've helped us make it as attractive, welcoming and efficient as we could over the years, and they've risen to the occasion when special contributions were called for. The membership in recent years has ranged between about 105 and 140, with many preferring to remain "silent supporters" while 20 to 30 regularly attend the monthly meetings and take part in the group's activities. Annual dues are $10, for which the member receives $5 worth of free library reserves, preview privileges at library book sales, an entertaining monthly newsletter, and the opportunity to associate with some very interesting, pleasant and fun-loving individuals. Their activities range from conducting two book sales each year to maintaining the plants inside the building, assisting with delivery of books to homebound patrons, hosting receptions for the monthly art exhibits, and assisting with a variety of special projects.
