We'll describe this in detail at a later date but for now will simply state our intention to operate the library service in as normal a manner as possible, with minimal interruptions or closures, during the months ahead. We know it will be a challenge for all of us - noisy, dusty and disruptive - but if we keep focused on the wonderful West Van library building which we'll have to admire and appreciate at the end of the process, we'll be alright. For now, please watch out for the Tech Services staffers, wheeling their loaded book trucks up and down the lane between the main Library and our new "annex". REFERENCE DEPARTMENT The Library of Parliament Research Branch publishes studies on current topics which may impact government policy. Current Issue Review and Backgrounder are a series of reports providing the reader with overviews on questions as varied as abortion, GST, child care, government, civil rights, labour, resource economy, capital punishment, environment, etc. Most of the reports are updated about once a year. The reports range in length from 10 to 100 pages. They include source references and chronologies of major events surrounding the issue, and it is clearly stated on the publications that "the service is extended without partisan bias." As a result, these studies are a good place for the layperson to start his or her research. We are asked for copies of legal forms from time to time. Most are found in O'Birien's Encyclopedia of Forms, however more specific samples can also be found in the Self-Counsel Legal Series, Moore's Legal Support Staff Desk Reference, and sometimes the Statutes themselves.
