The Technical Services/Systems Department, comprising the book ordering, labelling, cataloguing and data entry functions, was moved from the lower main floor across 20th Street to the former Health Unit building, which we've now dubbed the Library Annex. The department's nine permanent and one casual staff members will be located there until the construction work is completed, after which they will return to their former (renovated) quarters. In the meantime, the lower main floor is to become the new home of the Children's Department, but this won't take place until shortly before construction is due to start. It will take us a while to fix it up, with space for shelving, reading tables, story times and staff work areas. Like every other department, the Children's staff will be doing the best they can with reduced space during the construction period.
