Public comments on the architect's design have been reviewed carefully since the June 22 open house at the Library and the June 24 public meeting of Council to consider the project, and the Library Board is now confident that a very functional and aesthetically-pleasing building will result. If the present schedule is adhered to, construction work will occupy the whole of 1992, with the expanded Library opening for business early in 1993. It is the Board's intention to provide an uninterrupted service to the public throughout the construction period but invariably there will be noise and dust and disruption enough to tax everybody's patience. Please plan to bear with us as we move toward the completion of a much larger building offering a better service to our patrons - room to house the 20,000 volumes now in storage as well as space to accommodate collection expansion for several years, elevators to make all areas of the building accessible to all patrons, a larger meeting room capable of seating 60-70 people comfortably, much more study space, more washrooms, space for a Young Adult collection and reading area and so on. The prospect is exciting as we approach the next phase of development for West Van's Memorial Library.
