REFERENCE DEPARTMENT A few contributions to the history collec- tion in the Reference Department might be of interest to historians, both professional and amateur. A major acquisition, the 4- volume Encyclopedia of the Holocaust, is a study of monumental proportions. The research is scholarly, documented, and articles are signed by the authors. It presents analyses covering 50 years since the Holocaust and gives historical back- ground to anti-semitic movements and conditions giving rise to the catastrophic event. There is a wide range of topics all of which are easily located through the index and contents of the set. Another complex historical event is the French Revolution. Although many books have been written on this topic, a particularly interesting approach is in the book entitled A critical dictionary of the French Revolution. As the title indicates, the book goes beyond a simple dictionary in that it provides critical texts on the events, the personalities, the institutions and the ideas arising from the Revolution. Accessibility to information is made easy with the name and subject indexes. ADULT SERVICES IN THE GALLERY .... "Watercolour wanderings" by West Vancouver artist Archie Kerr will be on display in the Library throughout July. When Mr. Kerr retired from chartered account- ancy he took up painting as a retirement project. His subjects are widely varied and include landscapes, seascapes, animals, birds and flowers. All paintings are for sale. SUMMER FUN......HOLIDAY GBTAflAYS .... enjoy July, rain or shine, at home or away in some exotic or bucolic locale. We offer a few suggestions to enhance your vacation.
