In 1988 it became necessary to move 15,000 volumes into off-site storage. Further items were placed in storage last year. The Boards of the Memorial Library and the Memorial Library Foundation of West Vancouver jointly launched a fund-raising campaign in March 1989. Municipal Council pledged a total of $1.2 million to the project, plus a further $1.2 million to match private donations. In January 1990 the Hon. John Reynolds, Provincial Environment Minister, announced a GO-B.C. grant of $500,000. This brings the total raised to date to $2.7 million, with numerous additional contributions about to come in. Many people are involved in the campaign, from seniors, to businessmen, to Friends of the Library, to school children. Anyone seeking further information is asked to contact the Campaign Office at 926-2013.
