This mulberry tree is probably the oldest and the largest mulberry in the Greater Vancouver area. It was included in a Tree Tour sponsored by the V/est Vancouver Garden Club in 1981. Copies of the Tour Guide are available from the Municipal Hall. 15* 2396 I’xarine Drive This building is now the Capilano West Chinese Restaurant. It was erected as a grocery store in the mid 1920's by Mr. Robinson, who had been operating from a store close to the centre of the 2400 block. It later became the Deluxe Cleaners and then Hennesay's Restaurant. The writer was told, when he came to West Vancouver in 1957, that Hennesay's served the best Chinese food in Greater Vancouver. 14. The Business District - 2400 Marine Drive The business district of Dundarave is visually attractive, a tribute to careful Municipal planning and co-operative merchants. Note the width of the street, the median with its shrubs and flowers, the ornamental lighting, the trees in front of the stores. Note too the absence of overhead wiring and overly obtrusive signs. A glance back at 2300 Block will indicate the difference wiring makes. The Planning Report of 1977 can be up-dated to demonstrate the varied and growing nature of the area: In 1962 there were 36 businesses in 25 categories In 1977 there were 53 businesses in 30 categories In 1982 there were 60 businesses in 31 categories. The Planning Report of 1977 recommended no expansion of the commercial area, but did suggest expansion in the form of business offices on the north side of 2400 Bellevue and the south side of 2400 Hayvfood. All new structures would contain in-structure parking with access from the lanes. Lane parking is already common - of the 306 parking spaces available to present businesses, 76 are on the street and 230 in lots off the lanes. Medical services indicate that the planning is sound. In 1962 there were three doctors/dentists in offices in the commercial area. In 1982, at street level there are none. But two clinics on Bellevue house ten; the second floor of the Dundarave has four; an office on 24 Street has one• The miap attached shows proposed development in the area.
