SECOND ANNUAL CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST BARBECUE Two years ago the Board of the Society realized that the attendance was falling at our annual Christmas Party held in mid December. A decision was taken to switch the event to a summer Barbecue. This would allow those who found it difficult to attend during cold winter nights, to come and enjoy meeting old and new friends, have good food, wine, music and conversation. The first year we were blessed with fine weather and a good turnout of over 75 guests. This year there were more guests - over 90 guests attended. When tied in with a presentation, in the Museum, the event was a great success. Once again the weather was perfect, not too hot, yet warm and pleasant for an outdoor party. Our convener, Yvonne Bower, has done an excellent job of pulling together the food and entertainment for both events. She was ably assisted by Joan Cox and Don Grant. The 'Chefs' at the barbecue were Dave Barker, Bill Bird and Tom Taylor. We were entertained throughout the afternoon by our singer Gwen Gouchee. She provided beautiful back- ground music and song during the afternoon. The Museum assisted by providing tents and chairs for the event. We look forward to another summer time Christmas Party in 2010. Don Grant our set-up man and Yvonne Bower our superb convener. Barbecue photos - cont'd Susan Dirassar (center) making name tags.
