New Pictures and Information Needed for Centennial Book. The production of our Centennial Book on the Neighbourhoods of West Vancouver is being very '/veil served with assistance of the Archives, the Library and the Seniors Centre who have joined us as partners in the preparation of the book. In spite of the excellent collection of photos and documents in the Archives and Library it is vital that we take this opportunity to gather new material for our book and possibly for the Archives and the Library. We are, therefore, hosting a series of meetings in the Community to gather pictures and documents that may exist in family albums, filing folders and attics that would contribute to a richer book and possibly richer resources in our Archives. Here are the meetings scheduled to date to be held in 2009 and 2010 in the Seniors Centre Atrium: September 22, 7:00 pm neighbourhood - Dundarave November 19, 7:30 pm neighbourhoods - Park Royal and British Properties February 23, 2010, 7:00 pm - neighbourhood - Ambleside Meeting for Eagle Harbour/ Fisherman's Cove and Whytecliff/ Horseshoe Bay are planned for later in the spring of 2010. Your material will be handled in one of two ways. You may donate it to the Historical Society and the Archives or you may loan the material to the Historical Society who will make copies, with your permission, and return the material for your family records. We hope to find some new material that will add to the richness of our book. Page 2 President's Message The second annual 'Christmas in August Barbecue' was a huge success. Over 90 people enjoyed a beautiful day, good food and good conversation. All the arrangements were made by Yvonne Bower with Joan Cox assisting. She organized hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey burgers and veggie burgers as the main course with pies and cookies (home- made) for dessert. Cooking was handled by a team of Dave Barker, Bill Bird and Tom Taylor. Peter Strelaeff and his assistant Peter Cherry handled the drinks of wine, beer, lemonade and water. We were entertained by Gwen Gouchee throughout the afternoon. The Museum assisted with donations of chairs and tents. We welcomed their volunteers to the event. We look forward to hosting this event next year. Prepartion of a sample chapter of our Centennial History Book on the Neighbourhoods of West Vancouver is nearing completion. Caulfeild was chosen as the first chapter. Our goal is to produce the chapter as a focal point for our fund raising efforts. The cost of production must be raised before printing may begin. We are hoping that the Community will step up and assist the Society with the printing costs. We will be holding a series of meetings in the coming year to gather new pictures and stories from various neighbour- hoods. (See dates and times in the previous article.) We thought we had achieved the goal of a 'plaguing ceremony' for the dedication of the Lions Gate Bridge as a National Historic Site. September 12’^'^ was chosen for the event and then postponed until later without a date being set. Apparently the Minister Responsible for the event from the Federal Government cannot attend. We are now exploring the possibility of a local MP or MPs acting on his behalf. It is now nearly 5 years since the dedication of the Site. Those who initiated the process are anxious for the final event to take place as soon as possible. Cont'd. on page three.
