Page 9 Deborah Tuyttens Leaves; Melanie Hardbattle Arrives. We wish the best of kick to Deborah Tuyttens, who has taken a new job in Burnaby, where she will be the Museum Services Curator. Deb first came to us over ten years ago, w-ken she was applying for a ten-week part-time museum position, to enable her to make a little money while she was preparing her thesis. She has had a demanding schedule with us, which has included presentations on local topics on Point Atkinson Lighthouse, Squamish Elders, the 75"’ anniversaiy of the Legion, Fire Service History, Surveying, History' of West Vancouver artists. Visions of the North Shore Millenium Project, and the History of Transportation. Several traveling exhibits of wider scope have included the Klondike Gold Ru.sh and the Avro Arrow. We Welcome Our New Archivist. Melanie Hardbattle was appointed our new archivist, and started w'ork on August 2“". Before her appointrirent with us, she was Archivist for Provincial Health Care, wkich has six facilities, tncluding St. PauTs Hospital. She has also been employed by SFU, UBC and the City of Burnaby. You could well meet Melanie, if you visit our Archives on Wednesday or Thursday, from 1 :()0 pm to 4:30 pm. It should be mentioned that Carol Howie, who has worked at our Archives as Community Archives Assistant for the past seven months, will continue on as a research assistant at the Museum. She will play an i m p o r t a n tâ€"an d continuingâ€"part in helping to establish a catalogue of the recent acquisition of the Hodgson Family objects. Dickinson Archives Development Fund Seven months ago Kay Dickinson signed an agreement with the District of West Vancouver for her to contribute significant funds to start the Dickinson Archives Development Fund. Kay says that she believes in history, and that her gift is a tribute to her husband’s parents, who were “wonderful people living in a wonderful place.†Kay asserts that West Vancouver needs a proper environment for the storage of archival documents which are collected to record the history of West Vancouver. Her father-in-law, William Dickinson, w'as a municipal councilor for 14 years before becoming Reeve in 1945. Kay has made a superb contribution the Archives, and we do thank her for it! North Shore Heritage Weekend This year North Shore Heritage Weekend takes place from Friday, September 16, to Sunday September 18. Friday, September 16. “North Shore Moves; Paddles to Fuel CelLs†is at the West Vancouver Museum, 680 17’†Street, 12:00 to 4:30 pm. Glimpses of World War 11 West Vancouver; presentation and book signing by the author, Tom Taylor, and reception at the North Vancouver Municipal Hall, 355 West Queens Road, w'ill take place from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
