Page 3 Old-time Film Festival Here is an event with wide appeal, one that is being put together by WVHS member Chris Lee. It will be a three-day event, and held at the Kay Meek Centre at 1700 Mathers Avenue from November 11"’ to 13‘Helping Chris in his venture are Don Grant, Melanie Hardbattle (our archivist), Keith Goddai'd, Tom Taylor, Colin Preston (CBC), Bill MacDonald-Kerr, director of KMC. So far the committee has viewed material on the North Vancouver street cars, the West Vancouver Boys Band, century-old Noith Vancouver hotels, ski-ing on Hollybum, West Vancouver schools. All of the film is very compelling and should be seen by all who can attend the screening. The first segment of the festival will take place on Friday, November 11'^ at 7:00 pm. This is a special programme to honour our veterans of all the wars, and will start with a sing-along of songs from World Wars I and II. Following the singing will be a remarkable presentation by Canadian author and historian Christopher Weicht on Canadian West coast action during World War II. Saturday’s presentation will be twofold, with the first session going from 2-4 pm; and the second from 7-9 p.m. This presentation will constitute a trip down memory lane over the past 98 years, and will feature the old ferry system and bus systems, and Hollybum ski jumping in the ‘twenties and ‘thirties. Also to be shown is a film of the May Day parade from 1947. Sunday will feature a vintage film in the afternoon at 2:00 p.m., and a talk on developments in the local film industry in recent times in the evening at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at Festival Box Office, 604-357-0366. For further information call St. Stephen’s Church at 60-926-4381. November 23 General Meeting Be sure not to miss this one, because the featured speaker will be Lois Enns, who was our ai'chivist, but who is now Records & Information Analyst for our municipality. She will have an interesting presentation about what she has been doing, which will likely include a description of the work she has done so well on the Hodgson family with Carol Howie. Lois is always an engaging speaker, and will be especially interesting in her description of the work she has been doing on the archives website. At this meeting you will also meet our new archivistâ€"a splendid professionalâ€"Melanie Hardbattle. Your Contributions and the Newsletter This publication will continue in grand form as long as we can rely on your contributions to it. Helena Link’s article in this issue (which follows) was a wonderful help to the publication. It is well thought out, and very well expressedâ€"the product of an experienced reader and writer. But even if you send pieces in note form we can fix them up to be most presentable. Stories connected with the school, church and community or home events are all welcome as newsletter material. Put your minds to it!
