Page 3 West Vancouver Historical Society Noveiiilier 2003 President's Report (Concl.) On May 27'^ when Ian received an award for his long and continuing service to the Society, a presentation was also made to Laureen Jones, who would on that evening bid farewell to us. Her artistic contributions to the community and the Society will not easily be duplicated. Her deft touchâ€"our good luckâ€"is found on every wall of the Society’s workroom. Laureen, we wish you well. To find accountability in an accountant one need look no further than our treasurer, Joan Cox. A consummate professional, she provides statements that are invariably clear and up to date. What’s more, she keeps us in compass when it comes to how your money is spent. Now that Anne Vernon has finished her stint as our newsletter editor and publisher, she can relax a little and devote her Society time to what she has been doing thoroughly and well-keeping and circulating board meeting minutes. A medal is wananted here. Doris Lewis and Bud Langley are comparatively recent additions to the Board. Doris has devised a successful scheme to encourage capital donations to the Society; additionally, with the help of her fellow Rotarians, she has made a donation of $2,500 to the lens drive mechanism, which is part of the Lighthouse Park preservation programme supported by your Society. Bud until recently has been our liaison member on the Heritage Advisory Committee. Lately, despite several bouts of surgery, he has managed to obtain speakers for our general meetings. The most recent was Tewanee Joseph, media and communications professional with the Squamish Nation. His presentation was superb, and the questions that followed made for a highly stimulating evening. On behalf of those present, I thank you. Bud. I’ll stay with the one-man band for the time being. -Tom Taylor Missing Ferry Captains Jack Lancaster’s interesting articles about his dad set us to wondering if there were WVF captains in addition to Captains Finley, G.B. Warren, Darius Smith, John Watson, “Davie†Lund, “Old Mac†MacDonald and Ronnie Jackson (who went on to serve with distinction in the Navy in World War II.) NOVEMBER HI-LITES Edythe (Allan) Hawirko, one of our newsletter mail-out committee veterans and constant lielper in the Archives, mentioned to us how important our teachers were, both in elementary school and at Inglewood. That shared sentiment is echoed in this issue ot History-Onics.
