HISTORy-ONICS VOL 21 NO. 5 NOVEMBER 2003 The Newsletter of the West Vancouver Historical Society President’s Report The first time I saw a one-man band was at the Beacon Theatre on Hastings Street. (The other big attraction was the man who played the saw.) It amazed me how he could do so many things at onceâ€" and so musicallyâ€"or so I thought at the time. I hinted in the last newsletter that I would soon have to function like a one-man operation. I am your president (and the first one to lack a vice-president), the distributor of your newsletter and the editor of your newsletter. As editor, it is up to me to gather and edit all of the material sent to us. Getting enough of it together is the big job; editing it is less arduous. Send in your stories! I mentioned at our most recent general meeting that 1 had just finished a book about West Vancouver, and that much of the material in it might hold interest for long-time West Vancouverites and their families. In one breath I called for my replacement as editor (with one or a pair of co-editors), and in the other I said that I would “paste in†parts of my book which might be of interest. I explained that doing so might smack of self-promotion, but I did go on to say that net proceeds from the book would be dedicated to awards at West Vancouver Secondary School (a.k.a. “Inglewoodâ€). The responsibility of the one-man band lightens as I think of all the willing help Iâ€"and we, the Societyâ€" get from our board members and other volunteers. Some of these I mentioned last time; others, particularly those who help at general meetings, I want to acknowledge now. Dorothy Nelson, Pam Dewdney, Susan Dirasser, Edythe Hawirko (all heavily involved in other aspects of the Society, as well as the Museum & Archives), almost never fail to assist, especially at the reception desk. Ex- President Peter Hall almost invariably can be seen looking discerningly through the viewpiece of his video taping machine. He, like Hugh Johnston and Ian Macdonald, has done so much that it would take several newsletters to do him justice. - {Concluded on page 3) CORPORATE MEMBERS We gratefully acknowledge the support of our here in order of joining.
