EXECUTIVE REPORT: By: President Tom Taylor This is Tom Taylor's first report to you as President of the West Vancouver Historical Society. We look forward to many more. The days of our Society might be numbered. Its continued existence will depend on two thingsâ€"the election of my successor in 2004, and a successful appeal to younger people to join the Society. I am your president for the 2003-2004 term by default, really. I was the only vice-president on the board who had not done a stint as president. The other vice-presidents had all done at least one term in the office. As I already have more responsibilities than I can comfortably manage, I was reluctant to take on more. But I will do my best. If I am half as successful as Anne Vernon has been with both the newsletter and the secretary’s Job, or Joan Skipper with membership, or Joan Cox with the accounts, or Susan Dirasser with the ever-changing membership labels and lists, I shall consider myself successful indeed. One major change in our committeesâ€"one to be considered a lossâ€" is Anne Vernon’s function as editor of the newsletter. She has done a magnificent job, both in her gathering and writing items for the publication and overseeing its format and production. We couldn’t have been luckier. One of the reasons that our members renew each year is the satisfaction they get from “History- Onics.†We are most fortunate that Anne will stay on as our secretary: few committees can boast of a more efficient recorder than she. Replacing Anne on the newsletter will be John Cox, Joan’s husband. While the layout and emphasis may change somewhat, the overall quality of the paper will doubtless remain of the highest quality. John has had extensive experience in organizing text into a highly appealing format, Anne’s final newsletter is the one you are reading now. John’s first issue will appear two months from now. I will welcome any suggestions you might have about attracting younger members to the Society. One has already been made, and it concerns a fortieth reunion of 1962-63 graduates of West Van High. If they are half as interested in preserving the organization as are our members, such an appeal to them could well produce the sought-after result. Finally, I would like personally to welcome the new membeis to our Board, Pam Cowlishaw, Pam Dalik and Janis Johnson. All of these women are talented, resourceful and dedicated. If they typify the dynamism in members we seek, then there can be few doubts of a Society that is dynamic and long-lived.
