EXECUTIVE REPORT: On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank the hundreds of members who have already renewed their membership for 2003. Nearly everyone has done so. Membership fees are the major source of revenue for the Historical Society. This enables us to fulfill one of our mandates, providing financial assist- ance to the West Vancouver Museum and Archives. An example of this is our current project of helping to finance the assessing and cataloging of the Archives' collections. When this is done, the public will be able to make better use of the Archives for research. Many articles and items that are in the Archives are found nowhere else and are unique to West Vancouver. Many of you make donations to the Society as well. These too help finance the Museum and Archives. One idea that came from a Society member was that donations in the name of a deceased loved one could be made to the Society. The name of the person in whose honour the donation was made would be published in "History-Onics". More information on this will be forthcoming in a future issue. I would like to remind all of the Society's members that nominations for membership to the Board are rapidly approaching. If you would like to take a more active part in the running of the Society, we would like to hear from you. Speak to any Board member at a General Meeting or telephone the office at 604-025-7299. We welcome new blood. May you all have a very nice Spring Season. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + PROVINCE SUPPORTS LIONS GATE BRIDGE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE STATUS (Contd, from page 1) We first requested Provincial support in May 2000. Following a rejection, we applied again in January 2002. Our success the second time around was due to the participation of additional supporters, including MLA's Ralph Sultan and Lome Mayencourt. Special recognition and thanks is due to Society director Bud Langley who assisted at a critical time by consulting with the Squamish Band and clarifying their position. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + We have some apologies to make for errors in the last issue. Firstly, on page 8, we referred to the "When Older Is Better" article as being from Don Young. Apologies to Bob Young for this boo-boo! We hope for more from Bob in future. Secondly, your Quiz Master has been gently reminded by Norma (Minions) Hamilton that she was May Queen in 1936 and not 1934 as he thought! Many thanks, Tom, for donating the membership prizes you awarded to the winners.
