On Monday, December 2, 2002, the Cultural Services Department hosted a very successful volunteer appreciation Christmas Open House at the Museum. Museum SArchives Len Norris: A Retrospective: Part 1. This display continues to draw fans of Norris. Part 1 of the exhibit runs until March 2, 2003. Gallery Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 12 noon - 4:30 p.m. If you have not had a chance to come by and see the exhibit, be sure to come by soon because the original drawings on display will not be up for long. Watch out for Part 2 of the Len Norris: A Retrospective that will feature different drawings by Norris, beginning March 3, 2002. Please note: due to winter building maintenance the Museum will close from December 15, 2002 through January 7, 2003. Although it may be time for Winter cleaning and festivities, Barbara Milacek Welters is thinking of the coming Spring and Summer; she is in the throws of finalizing the public programs offered by the Museum. This coming year the Museum would like to develop more programming for active seniors. Barbara is developing a general Historical Lecture Series and an Architectural & Lifestyles Series of talks and discussions. Topics that will be explored are: business and industry in West Vancouver, Women of West Vancouver, Social History of West Vancouver, and Recreation in West Vancouver. How can you help? If you have some memories and/or anecdotes to share with Barbara, we would like to hear from you. Were you a sportswoman, a logger, a fisherman? Do you remember what life was like for women in West Vancouver from the 1920s-70s? Were you active in West Vancouver Recreation from the 1920s-70s? Your stories, experiences and anecdotes are all welcome. Call Barbara Milacek Welters at 604-925-7179 if you have anything you’d like to share. The staff at the Museum would like to thank the Historical Society for their support and look forward to working together with members on projects over the next year. Ed Note: Barbara will be on leave of absence during January 2003, when she and her new husband will be spending part of their honeymoon in Prague. Many congratulations to you both, Barbara. All of us in the West Vancouver Historical Society with you both a long and happy life together. WHEN OLDER IS BETTER (Contd. from Page 7) Hollybum School: Restored to its former glory As a result of Don Young sending us this article, and also from further contact we have had with him, we are delighted to tell you that your Society is proposing the West Vancouver District Facilities Department for a Heritage Award in 2003 for their excellent work at Hollybum School. The school looks charming - go and have a look at it. Don, Mike Mann and indeed the whole department (who now live high on the hill at Cypress) are all keen on preserving as much of School District #45 property as they can. Inside their building they have windows from Pauline Johnston School and many cupboard, shelving and other items which have been rescued from schools which have recently been updated. Congratulations to the whole department!
