HISTORY-ONICS VOL.20 NO. 3 MAY 2002 THE NEWSLETTER OF THE WEST VANCOUVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY _____________________________________________________ TRACING LIONS HERITAGE Margaret Ramsay, Archives/Museum chair for Girl Guides of Canada, Lions Area, and Editor of the newly published book "TRACING LIONS HERITAGE: History of Girl Guiding in Lions Area, B.C. 1921 - 2001", will present some of the highlights of the history of Guiding on the North Shore over the last SO years. Beginning her Guiding life in Winnipeg as a Brownie, Margaret went on to act as Brown Owl and Guide Captain while at the University of Manitoba, and worked witli young people and adults for many years. She has also served on the Girl Guide National Training Committee, becoming Deputy Commissioner, Hollyburn District Com- missioner and then Deputy Lions Area Commissioner, Many of you may know Margaret through her work with the Nortli Shore Volunteer Action Centre which she founded in 1976. This organisation was eventually renamed North Shore Commnity Services. Most West Vancouverites will either have taken part in Guiding, or have had friends or relatives who have been involved witli this challenging organisation. Do come and join us for tliis meeting - it should prove to be a most interesting evening.
