NAVVY JACK HOUSE The Board of the Historical Society has taken on a couple of projects for 2002 to make the general public aware of some of the historical beginnings ofWest Vanocuver. One of these is Navvy Jack House. This house, built in 1873, is thirteen years older than the city of Vancouver and is possibly the oldest continuously inhabited residence in the Lower Mainland, the Lawson family being one of the more famous of its inhab- itants. The Historical Society is studying ways of informing the citizens of West Vancouver of the house's significance and of commemorating its presence. Stay tuned for details. LIGHTHOUSE PARK The Historical Society has been given per- mission to use one of the display boards at Light- house Park to mount a revolving display of copies of photographs obtained by the Museum and financed by the Society for its recent show on the Point Atkinson Lighthouse. When you visit the Park this Spring and Summer make sure that you visit the display. LIONS GATE BRIDGE The reconstruction of our old friend, the Lions Gate Bridge, is approaching its final stages and should be complete by the coming summer. All concerned in the project have worked very hard to overcome many obstacles, both expected and unexpected, in order to get the job done. For those perhaps unaware of its importance, this is the first time ever that such reconstruction has taken place whilst a bridge was still open to the public. So we make history in our own time! JOHN LAWSON PARK You may have noticed over the past several months that the public washrooms in John Lawson Park have been replaced. Beside them is a covered display area for municipal events. The Historical Society donated some money to help build this kiosk. One of the display areas will be devoted to the work of the Museum and Archives. The Historical Society will post information on upcoming meetings, speakers and special events in this area. Don't forget when you walk the Seawalk this Spring and Summer to look for the latest events that will be sponsored by the Museum and the Historical Society.
