As we gathered at the log mansion, "Spuraway Lodge", we watched the tree lights sparkling, the fireplace aglow. Yummys and the aroma from the kitchen came wafting through to us... and, of course, the gurgling and tinkling sound also echoed throughout, which left that special festive mood. The weatherman was not kind to us as we all had to come through a veritable downpour, but at least there was no snow and ice. However, none of this dampened our spirits and a great turnout of members and friends, including quite a few "new" members, joined in the fun. Past-President Peter Hall greeted everyone as they arrived and gave each person a raffle ticket for the door prizes which were to be drawn for later on in the evening. Alastair Duncan was kept busy filling glasses, while Don Graham took over the cash box for bar tickets. Hugh Johnston was "serving it right", and Neville Grey helped out where necessary. This year we were pleased to have Bob Tapp return as Santa - a very jolly Santa too. We had a new "Santa Helper" - he called her "Anne" {our editor in cap and bells) - who was kept busy handing out presents from under the tree to the raffle winners. We were pleased to have a superb singer called Pam Rowe, who was accompanied by Harold Brown on the piano. They brightened our evening by playing all the old songs and carols and were joined by many of those present re- living older days. A treat for us all. The food was marvellous as was the punch. (Recipe on request.) Many thanks to all those who brought along their "goodies". This Christmas Party proved to be as happy as previous ones. We intend to continue the tradition next year and all the years to come. Membership Report By: Joan Skipper Membership Chair Joan Skipper has been away from her desk during the past few weeks, but is now back to work as usual. During her absence Susan Dirassar has filled in for Joan, which is really appreciated by us all. Membership renewals, and new memberships, are rolling in - more than 100 to date! Both ladies are working hard to sort them all out and ensure that all will be up-to-date before the next general meeting. All the gift memberships were sent out in good time for Christmas, complete with greetings. Here is a list of new members who joined since September.
