Saturday morning looked promising but, alas, during the parade the wind blew and the rain fell, but the children - as they always do - took it all in their stride and enjoyed themselves anyway! The Society was well represented in the parade - with Ernest Kershaw and his wife riding in the "antique" limosine, a two-tone silver grey 1941 Packard, kindly supplied by Byron Briton and driven by his daughter, Lisa. Our banner was carried in front of the car by your director Dave Barker and his son Scott. Our display was held in the Fabric Arts Room at the West Vancouver Senior's Activity Centre, just off the main hall. Although our usual room (the Visual Arts Room) is larger, we were able to adjust our set up to fit the Fabric Arts Room to contain a variety of pictures and panels. Many thanks for helping to Hugh Johnston, Dave Barker, Don Graham, Pam Dewdney, Joan Skipper, Susan Dirasser and Anne Vernon. Also my thanks to Byron Briton for donating his time and efforts involved in presenting our parade entry. Again, many thanks, from both myself and the Society, to all who helped to set-up and pack-up! Ed Note: The weather did clear up and the sun shone during much of the afternoon. The fun and games -especially in the "Dunk Tank" and the "Climbing Wall" - were enjoyed by all age groups, although it was mainly the children who participated! There was also a very popular track laid out for mountain bike afficionados. What skill! Welcome to New Members We are delighted to welcome the following new members who joined the Society in May: Keith Bosquet and Judy Fox of West Vancouver John Halstead of Whislter Stan Vvilsoii, Marie Lockliart, Don Gran! and Connie Cooper - all of West Vancouver and Muriel Johncox of Belwood, Ontario Old Friends It is never easy saying goodbye to old friends but some, who have done much for the Society, are remembered in our columns. Recently two such members left us. What follows are a few lines - from Joan Skipper about Eric Lashbrook, and (on page 5) from Tom Taylor about Trixie Snelgrove. Eric Lashbrook passed away in May, and he will be missed by many of our members. Eric attended school in West Vancouver -Pauline Johnston Elementary and Inglewood Junior-Senior High. I remember him well from those days, having attended the same schools. Like many from the 40's, Eric "joined up", joining the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. After leaving the navy, he was hired as an inspector to grade wood for export for the lumber industry. Later, as a carpenter, he formed his own company -LO NET - which was well known in West Vancouver for many years. Eric and his wife Mary enjoyed Mediterranean cruises and travelled extensively in Europe over the years. He and Mary have 5 children and there are now 4 grandsons and 5 granddaughters. Fishing with his grandsons was a favourite pastime of Eric's. Over the years, as a member of the West Vancouver Historical Society, Eric was always a very willing helper at our Christmas parties, and we will certainly miss his cheerful presence very much. *********
