YOUR LETTERS Andy Reid has also sent us the following informatiom.which we are sure you will find of interest. "EARLY SETTLERS LIVED IN TENTS In 1911 my paternal Grandparents emigraged from Perthshire, Scotland, and settled in West Vancouver. Two of their sons had proceeded them and had purchased four 33' lots located approximately 66' west of the comer of 14th and Esquimalt Road, with Vinson Creek as the western bounday. While their bungalow was being built they lived for a while in the tent in the photo on the right. Many similar tent homes existed in West Van as late as the mid 1920's. Circa 1925 I had a paper route along the waterfront. East Ambleside Beach from approx 12th to the Capilano River had a fair Your Letters (Contd.) As I remember them, they were approx 12 x 20', built up on blocks with wooden floors, wood side walls (shiplap) approx 5-6' high, with heavy canvas stretched over a centre pole for a roof. We were told if you kept your fingers from touching the canvas it wouldn't leak.
