EXECUTIVE REPORT: By: The Editor Your directors felt that it was time for a change and switched to coloured paper. We chose blue for West Vancouver - a lighter shade than the District’s logo -and hope you like our New Look. This colour should be easier on the eyes than just plain white paper and it will be easier for you to find us among the evergrowing pile of unsolicited mail which seems to land on our doorsteps these days! Membership Drive It's that time of year again and your Membership Renewal Form for the year’ 2001 (the real Millenium?) is enclosed with this newsletter. Joan Skipper ensures that the lists of our memb^s are kept up-to-date and she and Susan Dirasser look after the mailing lists to ensure all members get their copies of each "History-Onics" issue. Joan is waiting to hear from you! You may have heard on the grapevine that we are having a big membership drive during the next few months. We hope to extend our numbers by enlisting both old-established residents and newcomers to our community who are fascinated by West Vancouver's past. If you know of anyone interested in joining the Society, please lend your support by encouraging them to contact Joan Skipper. What about sending someone dear to you a subscription to the Society as a Christmas gift. Again, Joan and Susan ensure that a "welcome" gift card is enclosed with each such issue telling the recipient who has had him or her in their thoughts. Our support for the Museum and other West Vancouver heritage bodies, as well as the production of this newsletter, is made possible by voluntary help. Interested in giving us a "helping hand"? If you join our band we can ensure that you will find a warm welcome and, as with all volunteering, the rewards of satisfaction and companionship much outweigh the outlay of time you contribute. The November Meeting The front page has told you about our November speaker. How exciting to know that the younger generation is also int^ested in preserving our heritage and prepared to get out there and do something about it! This may be a very well attended meeting so come early to ensure you get a good seat! Simon Jackson is obviously a special young man, but we know there are many more of his generation who are waiting in the wings to do similar work. Perhaps it just needs a spark to light their interest in our predecessors who have shaped Canada, the North Shore and West Vancouver. Are your children and grandchildren among them? Talk to them about your own past and what it was like growing up in West Van's earlier days. It is important to give them a sense of continuity in this busy world and your stories are always eagerly welcomed by our newsletter staff. We will not see you again until February 2001 so your Directors wish you all - A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
