A Departure for the Historical Society Traditionally, the West Vancouver Historical Society actively and publicly supports the physical and intellectual history of West Vancouver. The November 22nd General Meeting will feature a bit of a departure from this. Simon Jackson, one of only 6 youth worldwide named by Time Magazine last spring as a "Hero of the Planet", will be giving a talk and slide show. His topic will "The Preservation of the Spirit Bear" - - the rare white-coloured Kermode bear found only on B.C.'s Princess Royal Island. Simon has put his educational plans on hold for a year after graduating from West Vancouver Secondary School last June to continue his quest as head of the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition. His goal is to save the Spirit Bear without crippling the forest industry. With support from Jane Goodall, Robert Bateman and Robert F. Kennedy Junior, Simon seeks to save our present treasures for tomorrow's youth. This General Meeting is free and open to the public, not just Society members.
