If you graduated from West Van High, you can achieve this by visiting the school and wandering down its Halls of Graduates - 75 years worth. The only missing year from 1925 - 2000 is 1927. Does anybody have records in their basement? The first composite, 1925, has 12 students pictured, all in grade 11. The year 2001 will have nearly 500 students in grade 12! Originals from 1925 - 1955 are hung in the hall. Unfortunately, the practice of creating grad composites was discontinued in 1955. Twenty-nine years later, in 1984, Principal John Williams reinstituted them and they have been rolling out annually ever since. In 1989, Principal Amie Smith decided to fill in the missing years and a search of the school archives located the yearbooks for those years. A parent of the school provided the laser copies and Jostens, the company that did the school photos, produced the composites. The result is 75 years of grads on display in the halls of West Van Secondary. It is interesting to see current students wandering the halls searching for parents, grandparents and even great-grandpaerents. An interesting sidelight is that a recent Hollywood movie filming in Vancouver rented 20 of the composites to provide instant history for a set. You may now be part of a major motion picture! If you would like to take a trip down memory lane, give the school a call at 981-1100 and drop by for a visit during the school day - you may be surprised at what you find!
