Hollyburn Heritage Society By: lola Knight The Hollyburn Ski Camp Heritage Project Committee is pleased to announce that it has officially incorporated as Hollyburn Heritage Society. At present, we have two projects: the Hollyburn Ski Camp Heritage Project and the Hollyburn Cypress Heritage Project. Our first project has been under way since 1997 and we have been accumulating heritage photographs, printed material and ski artifacts. In time the Hollyburn Ski Camp area will be transformed into a Heritage Site as outlined in the B.C. Parks Master Plan of June 1997, which was brought about by the joint efforts of BC Parks, (the landowners), and by the Cypress Bowl Recreations Ltd. company which runs the ski facilities and owns the buildings. Our Society is providing historical and heritage background items for the project and donating the proceeds from the sale of coffee mugs and beer steins which are also providing an awareness to the public of these projects. Larger donations provide funds for the preparation of displays of photographs, news articles and artifacts which will eventually be located in the Hollyburn Lodge. When complete, the displays are to be donated to the West Vancouver Museum & Archives, but left on the site on an extended loan basis. Our second project, which has just begun, is to compile a history of the Cypress Bowl area, concentrating on the headwaters of Cypress Creek and its surounding Black, Strachan and Hollyburn Mountains. "History-Onics" readers are invited to loan or donate any historical photos or articles which they may possess. Li time these historical items will be displayed in public assembly buildings in both the Alpine and Nordic ski areas. On Wednesday, August 16th, our Society will hold a Millennium Gathering (12-4 pm.), at First Lake Picnic Area if fine, or Hollyburn Lodge, if wet. This will be the 8th Annual Gathering of pioneer skiers from Grouse, Seymour and local mountains and is a great opportunity for those attending to meet some of the people who were around during the founding years of these* ski heritage areas. The new Society's motto is: "Yesterday's activities, today's history: today's activities, tomorrow's history". Further information nury he had from Bob Tapp at 926-3748or Gordon Knight at 922-7358,
