EXECUTIVE REPORT: By: Ian Macdonald The Society's Annual General Meeting was held on April 26th and, as is done annually, a new board of directors was elected. Four members of the outgoing board did not stand for re-election. Directors Gerry Kidd, A1 Hasley and Bob Tapp all stepped aside to devote their time in other directions and we thank them for their efforts and contributions during their time on the board. Our past-president, Helen Davies, is also not returning to the board. In the past year Helen received her Ph.D. in History and has embarked on a new and exciting career which, unfortunately for the Society, involves some travel and demands virtually all her time. The Society was in energetic and capable hands during her three years as president. She is a person who brings to mind the phase - "If you want something done, ask a busy person". We will miss her enthusiasm and willingness to take on any task. Thank you Helen for your efforts; good luck in your career and we look forward to the day when, as promised, you can return to the board. A meeting for the election of officers was held on May 16th, 2000. As may be seen on the masthead alongside, the position of president was not filled. Dave Barker was elected 1st Vice President, Tom Taylor 2nd Vice President, Mia Bonettemaker Treasurer and Anne Vernon Secretary. While being without a president is not desirable, the Society has been in the same position twice in years past. On each occasion the affairs of the Society ran smoothly and eventually a person emerged to take the presidency. At this time the directors are agreed they will each pitch in and are confident the Society will continue to function well. The Editor would also like to express her thanks to Helen Davies, who was a tower of strength when she was asked to replace our previous talented editor. Waring Pentland. Without the help of them both your newsletter would certainly not have been presented in its usual format. They enabled a very nervous new editor to overcome the terrors of desktop publishing!
