Page 8 West Vancouver Historical Society June 2000 West Vancouver MUSEUM & ARCHIVES CORNER We have a new addition to the staff at the West Vancouver Museum & Archives. His name is Darrin Martens and details of his career to date are covered in the article below. Museum&Archives Darrin Martens has been a Museum Assistant with our Musuem & Archives for approximately 4 months. (Prior to that he worked in the development Office at the Arts Club Theatre Company). Darrin moved to Vancouver 3 years ago from Regina, Sask., where he had worked for the MacKenzie Art Gallery as a Preparator/Pro-gramme Facilitator. He has a B.A. in Art History, a B.F.A. in Visual Arts (University of Regina), and a Certificate in Museum Studies( UBC). We believe that Darrin has a great deal to contribute to the cultural and artistic institutions of this province. He is delighted to be working in West Vancouver and feels fortunate to be working within such a dynamic museum as the West Vancouver Museum & Archives. He looks forward to the future, when the Museum & Archives takes its true place within the West Vancouver community and is recognised as an institution of excellence for its exhibitions and programming. Deborah Tuyttens and her staff are glad to welcome their new member and we look forward to his contributions to our future programming "Visions of the North Shore" and "Reflections of Place" Exhibition The first of six "Visions of the North Shore" exhibitions will be officially launched at the West Vancouver Museum & Archives on July 1, 2000. "Visions of the North Shore" is a government-funded art and heritage millennium project sponsored by the North Vancouver Community Arts Council. The suite of 12 original hand-pulled prints have been created by various senior artists from across the North Shore, including Ross Penhall, Pierre Coupey, Wayne Eastcott and Jennifer Judge. They signify the synthesis between the print medium and artistic inspiration from each culturally and historically important site. Accompanying these prints are historical adn cultural narratives about each area. " Reflectionns of Place", the West Vancouver Museum & Archives exhibit, re-examines the histories, stories and cultures of the North Shore. It narrates, through artistic expression, the rich and vibrant histories that the North Shore communities have to share and to present these expressions to residents and visitors to the North Shore. It will be on display until December 16, 2(KX). Curator, Deborah Tuyttens, of the West Vancouver Museum & Archives views the exhibition as "a personification of the historical significance of these sites and a brilliant visual narration of the dynamic histories of the North Shore". For more information on the exhibition and its programming, please contact Darrin Martens at the Musuem at 925-7297. Cherry Trees - Taylor Way PHOTO: W.V.
