EXECUTIVE REPORT: by Helen Davies It has been my honour to have served as President of the West Vancouver Historical Society for the past three years. The Society constitution specifies, however, that this is the maximum term of for President. I am, therefore, stepping down. Moreover, due to new and challenging work commitments, I will be unable to stand for re-election to the Society Board. During my term on the Board, I have met wonderful people and I am grateful for all their encouragement over the years. In particular, I would like to thank Past-president Ian Macdonald for his advice and ongoing support. Ian was always available to take a call from his successor and could be counted on to provide sound advice and good ideas. Always pitching in, he regularly agreed to do countless "little" tasks that often weren’t so little, thereby helping to “smooth the way” for me, particularly during the early days. Thanks also to Mia Bonettemaker who, after long and demanding days at her accounting business, always manages to find time to make sure that the Society’s books are in order and that the bills get paid. I would also like to thank the many Society members I have had the good fortune to work with over the years: Tom Taylor, and his mail team, Susan Dirassar, who maintains the membership list, membership chair, Joan Skipper, special events coordinator, Laureen Jones, past editor of History-Onics, Waring Pentland, recording secretary and present newsletter editor, Anne Vernon, honorary archivist, Rupert Harrison, Janis Johnson and Lorie Pentland who, prior to Lama Horne, looked after the gift shop, Jim McCarthy who, until recently, organized speakers for the general public meetings, Alan Johnstone and Peter Hall, as well as past and present board directors. (As you can see, the list is long!) It is due in large part to the ongoing hard work of people like these, that the Society is such a well loved and respected community organization. Thanks also to all the members who diligently renew their memberships every year. Without your continued support, the Board would not be able to promote and preserve West Vancouver heritage. Over the years, I have enjoyed serving on the board. The work has been challenging and demanding and I have learned so much. Most of all I have treasured making new friends who, like me, have a passion for history. I will continue to participate actively in the Society, but from the sidelines for a while, but I am confident that the organization will continue to grow and thrive, and endure as an important part of West Vancouver.
