Page 4 West Vancouver Historical Society February 2000 SOCIETY NEWS CURRENT AFFAIRS AND NEWS OF GENERAL INTEREST TO MFMRFR.'i Special Events Activities By: Laureen Jones Director, Special Events For this year's Society Xmas party at Spuraway, the weather was especially kind to us, holding off the rain and snow. The clouds drifted away, making the stars look like our own personal Christmas lights. As Society members arrived, goodies and food bank hampers in hand, Christmas music wafted throughout the rooms. Unable to attend. President Helen Davies asked her mother, Margaret Davies, to extend a big thank-you to all the people who work to make sure the Society is a success. On behalf of Helen, Margaret thanked the Board of Directors and the many people, like Tom Taylor's newsletter mail team and Joan Skipper's membership crew, who volunteer many hours to make sure the Society is in shipshape. She also thanked Anne Vernon for her continued good work as the Editor of History-Onics and Susan Dirassar for maintaining the membership list. Bob Tapp was a great Santa and Deborah Tuyttens was a wonderful Santa's helper. Thanks Bob & Deb! New this year was pianist Cecile Chang. She played the piano beautifully and inspired the gathered throng to join our carol singing. Thanks very much Cecile! A special thank you goes to Peter Hall who kindly "jumped in" at the last minute to look after the refreshments, taking over for Alistair Duncan who was away on business. Thanks also to Eric Lashbrook for looking after the glasses and Don Graham for assisting. We appreciate all your hard work. Many thanks also to Joan Skipper, our liaison with Spuraway management, "official" photographers Joan and Fran Hall, Pam Dewdney and Dorothy Nelson for all their help. Finally, thanks to Barb and Hal Johnson for delivering the food bank packages. Happy 2000 to all! Editor's Note: Our annual Christmas party was a success, as usual. Good food, good friends, and a happy atmosphere in beautiful surroundings, all well organized by our Special Events coordinator, Laureen Jones. Laureen works very hard to plan this event. She makes dozens ofphone calls, arranging the multitude of little jobs entailed. All in all, there is a great deal of work involved on her part to ensure we enjoy a very nice evening. So - thank you Laureen, from all of us in the Historical Society. Membership Report By: Joan Skipper Membership Chair Our membership renewals have been rolling in over the past few weeks.
